Werribee Open Range Zoo

What an incredible day the 1/2 Area had at the Werribee Zoo! The weather was perfect, and the animals were all out enjoying the day as much as we were!

We were so lucky to get up close to the animals during the Safari. This part of our day was definitely the highlight, as we have never been able to get this great a look at such wonderful creatures from all over the world.

Be Kind, Rewind

Congratulations everyone on an amazing effort during our school concert –  Be Kind, Rewind.

Everyone loved learning the dances, singing along and especially getting dressed up in amazing costumes! We looked especially cool dressed up as giant Lego blocks.

Excursion to Preston

Wow! What a great day we had on our excursion to Preston!

We  loved walking around High Street and exploring our local community. The wonderful staff at the Preston Library explained how to sign up and borrow books, magazines and even DVDs and CDs from their collection.  They also presented an extremely interesting recount of the history of Preston.

Then we walked to the Police station and old Fire station that has been converted into a cafe.

After that, we went to the Vietnamese restaurant to enjoy some delicious fried rice and spring rolls.

We were very lucky to have avoided the rain, and weren’t put off by the chilly wind.

We even saw some amazing street art!IMG_20160721_111400

Before the day was over, we managed to explore the Preston Market and purchase some healthy fruit snacks from one of the fresh fruit and vegetable stores.

We can’t wait to visit the wonderful Preston Library and Market again with our families and learn even more interesting things about our diverse community.

I’m a Grumpy Old Troll

Lyrics:

I’m a grumpy old troll ,

Living under a bridge,

I’ve got an empty tummy

And an empty fridge,

I’m waiting all day for a meal to come along

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

The first billy goat was lean and small

He hardly would make a meal at all

Wait for my brother,

He’s a four course meal

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

The second billy goat was a little bit bigger

Nice plump cheeks and a big fat figure,

But if you’d only wait,

The best is yet to come

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

The third billy goat was big and bold

He ran straight ahead and he stopped me cold

Knocked me over

And knocked me far away.

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?

Science experiments in Term 2

Last week we made ooey-gooey OOBLECK! We mixed corn flour with water and a bit of green food colouring, and made the most interesting product showing properties of both liquid and solid!image image image image

The Rainbow Circles Experiment showed us the many different components to the in ink in our every-day coloured markers. Through capillary action, we observed the colours separate, mix and spread as the ice melted in the centre of our tissue. We were very intrigued as we didn’t know how it was going to look at the end of our experiment, but we loved the beautiful results.

Can’t wait to do more fun experiments in the classroom!

This Is Your Life – our Special Person book

Throughout Term 1, we learnt all about the importance of our family, and how our unique family history can impact who we are.

We worked on our “This Is Your Life” books about a special person in our family, which we filled with many great artefacts. We wrote letters, poems, questions, reflections and memories for our special person.

We created many beautiful works, such as painted portraits and collages. We even made the front and back cover and bound it into a wonderful finished product. We invited our special person to come in for our morning tea so we could present these books to them. We all really enjoyed reading to them, playing games and eating delicious treats, and were able to show how grateful we are of our family.

These are some of our favourite pages in our books:image2 image16 image15 image13 image12 image11 image10 image9 image8 image7 image5 image4 image3 image1

Athletics Day – 16th March 2016

Everyone had such a fantastic time at our Athletics day, despite the hot, hot weather!

Starting with the running relays, all grade 1/2 raced in house teams and practiced handing over the batons. This was a big tricky, with a few being dropped here and there, but everyone  got the hang of it in the end!

For the 100m sprints, all students participated and gave it their best shot! We were cheering and encouraging each other to run as fast as we could. The field games that followed were lots of fun, with the sack races being our favourite.

By the end of the day we were absolutely exhausted, but feeling incredibly proud of our outstanding efforts!

Well done 1/2 G 🙂

Maths in Term 1

This term we have been having loads of fun doing hands on activities and using ICT to learn about place value in Maths!
We have been using a range of materials to model and explain the concept of place value, and have become experts at our favourite game “Base Ten Fun”: http://www.abcya.com/base_ten_fun.htm
